Project Case Study

Commercial Cord Drop Installation in San Jose

A commercial client in San Jose needed accessible receptacle power dropped from the ceiling. BNV Electric used existing labeled capped circuits, supported the cable path, installed the cord drop assembly, and tested and labeled the completed outlets.

What BNV Was Asked to Solve

The space needed usable receptacle power in an area where wall outlets were not the practical answer. During layout, BNV found existing capped circuits in a junction box that were already labeled in the panel.

That existing circuit source gave the project a cleaner path: extend from available circuits, support the cable correctly, and create an accessible ceiling cord drop without turning the job into a larger panel run.

Planning Around Existing Conditions

Commercial cord drops are small details that need careful execution. The ceiling box, cable support, cord grip, SO cord, lower receptacle box, testing, and labeling all have to work together.

BNV Electric verified the circuit source, routed and supported the MC cable, cut the T-bar opening, installed the Kellems grip and faceplate, and brought the receptacle power down where it could be used.

Built for Serviceability

The finished installation was kept practical: supported cabling, an accessible cord drop assembly, and labeled outlets that could be understood later by the customer or another qualified electrician.

That serviceability matters on commercial electrical work because small power additions still need to be clean, traceable, and easy to maintain.

The Takeaway

This project shows practical commercial electrical work: using available circuits where appropriate, keeping the installation supported and serviceable, and leaving the finished outlets tested and labeled.
